AS322747 - Optioneering and Optimization Using Generative Design and Evolutionary Solvers

Session Description

With the introduction of tools such as Autodesk’s Refinery (previously Fractal) and evolutionary solver plug-ins through Grasshopper, the designer has the ability to explore an almost infinite number of design options. It is, however, not as simple as it may appear. This talk will give an overview of the principles of optioneering and optimization. We will discuss some of the limitations that exist and how you can get the most out of the tools that are currently on the market. By the end of the talk, you should have a sound understanding of how these tools could be applied to your field of work, and how successful use of generative design will come from a collaboration of the human and the computer.
