BLD121494 - A Client's Approach to BIM on a Mutli-Form, Multi-Stage Integrated Resort Development

Session Description

A case study on the adoption of BIM on the new Queens Wharf, $3B Integrated Resort Development in the CBD of Brisbane, Australia. An initiative from the developer and operator. The project extends over 10% of the Brisbane CBD footprint. The timing and approach to create the projects virtual environment, coordination of the new and existing built form with laser scanning, review of the public realm stakeholder requirements, including the intensive public services utilities of a CBD site, through the management of an expected 600 + models in Navisworks, originating from multiple software platforms will be presented. The adoption of virtual reality and the benefits achieved for the client and design teams will be explored. While the preparation of as-built information for facility management integration with BIM360, as the first of multiple project stages step into construction will be demonstrated. A presentation on truly integrated BIM implementation for all project participants.

  • Alastair Brook - BIM Operations Manager (AUS), PDC BIM

    Alastair started life as an architectural modeler creating large Revit retail & commercial projects, before furthering his studies completing a Construction Management & Economics degree with Honours, focusing on main contractor’s views and perceptions of BIM; benefits, barriers & implementation strategies. He completed this degree while working as a strategic estimator on bids, valued up to $230M. His studies and experience have prepared him for his current position as the Project BIM Manager on the $3B Queens Wharf Project, Brisbane. Previously working on the $1B Perth Stadium & $1.2B Perth Children’s Hospital, where his roles vary from the day to day management of BIM, through to the development and implementation of BIM plans and strategies, liaising with a variety of project stakeholders. His background of design and cost management allow him to specialize in utilising BIM, to add value and increase efficiencies for the pre-contract, design and construction management teams.
